Sci-fi Boy

by All is Leaf

about

One of the final episodes in my song cycle/ concept album "the invisible revolution". In this one Dominick is an old man, He speculates about his oldest friend and revolutionary comrade who died young. He hears that their children are working in the same bar, without even realising their relationship.
When my beloved friend Neil died, I wanted to write something that expressed how close we were growing up. But everything I wrote sounded wrong. In the end, I wrote a short Sci-fi story, the type that we both read all the time when we were teens. I said it all within that. I found out a few years ago, that his daughter was working across the street from mine. I imagined them passing each other in the street and not knowing each other, something that would have been unimaginable to Neil and I when we were kids! It's for everyone who outlived a paradigm.

lyrics

Lyrics:
The Government made a decision, to separate all the children of the rebels who refused to sign the truce/ But the teachers didn't like you wild-haired and arrogant eyed you became a poster boy for their abuse/We made our own clothes it was a stroke of genius but it was also low self-esteem yes, you said it's better to be an outsider than a battery fucking hen/ And when they said our names we refused to answer- as if to say 'yeah, that's our names but you don't get to use them
Chorus
And when we were talking that was talking/ and when we were laughing that was laughing/
You're my friend and we're together /and that's the only thing that matters
where you are I belong /and while you're alive I'm not alone/
and when we were talking/ that was talking and when we were laughing that was laughing
V2
Now I'm old and you are gone our kids and grandkids don't even know each others names/ It's hard to believe man but it's true we could pass each other in the street and never even know/
Aaaah, everything has changed now/ and when I try to explain how things were before/ the young people just stare and I wonder if we even exist anymore
Chorus
And when we were talking that was talking/ and when we were laughing that was laughing/
You're my friend and we're together /and that's the only thing that matters
where you are I belong /and while you're alive I'm not alone/
and when we were talking/ that was talking and when we were laughing that was laughing
