Dying For The Light Life is a prison And death is the door One day it just wont matter anymore If your feet don’t touch the ground When you’re dying for the light just Close your eyes We talk about being We talk about nothing If light is energy And matter is energy Then what is energy One day it just won’t matter anymore If you cant breathe in the air When you’re dying for the light just Close your eyes

sympathy for 03:16
When you’re different When you’re strange Every body wants to turn you around When you’re open and you’re clean Everybody wants to show you That they’re open and they’re strange That they’re different and clean I am real Real as jesus Real as the dirt When you prick me Do I not bleed When you hurt me I hurt When you’re real Everybody wants to stop you And you only find out Who your real friends are When most of them have dropped you Because you’re open And you’re strange Because you’re different You’re clean I am real Real as jesus Real as the dirt When you prick me Do I not bleed When you hurt me I hurt

finally ok 03:34
3. Finally OK Your eyes are twinkling Like it’s going out of fashion You’re talking about truth And guts and passion She yawns in your face and You’re one more mick All balls and belly and big mouth You fall against the window Pull the curtains down You slide down the walls Puking to the ground In the background You hear a close friend say When you get to know him he’s ok In a jacks in paris fucking Moaning with a woman Who says she can’t help She’s coming she’s coming You could have sworn That the door was locked But apparently it wasn’t She walks in and the laughter in her eyes Gives way quickly to disgust and surprise As she sees you locked in life’s purest embrace She steps back and slams the door In both your faces Marie-Eve says man You’re not the bastard you pretend She leaves you her number In case you need a friend You smile like you do And say You know me I’ll be ok At a party in chelsea There’s a yawn you recognize You both blush crimson Because you both remember why Late that night she folds away The clothes that she had on her You approach her tentatively Like a leper in a sauna Her friends can’t understand How she can think of you that way She says when you get to know him He’s ok

5. Donna Quixote Donna Quixote The girl of la mancha And I lie dying On the ebbtide of rapture She’s praising my eyes I’m insisting on cash She’s admiring my earrings My teeth and my moustache Donna Quixote her heart is a legend Donna Quixote The girl of la mancha Our hips swayed To the music of love In a cheap Spanish disco The costa del nothing We made up joke names For the kid we were having Donna Quixote her heart is a legend Donna Quixote The girl of la mancha I would never Uproot or replant you She was cracking a joke And slapping her thigh With her sword in her belt And a tear in her eye Donna Quixote her heart is a legend Donna Quixote The girl of la mancha Held on to me silently Shaking and crying People will never believe The truth about us So why waste my time Even trying Donna Quixote her heart is a legend

6. Dead Man's Hand I lay on the sand beside my mother the sea She whispered to me of corn and water A women’s wisdom Laughing daughters I will be your man I walked the hill and all the while My father the sun sang me the song Of the earth and sky The strong arm and clear eye I will be your man We married in a sailor’s church My father the sun came shinning through The windows on you and I In our finest clothes All of heaven knew I would be your man I will be your man Five dark fingers of good brown bog A dead man’s hand in a cold grey sea Four warm inlets of lacy foam Oh lover be kind to me I will be your man again

wild girl 03:22
7. Wild Girl She’s a wild girl Dancing in front of the mirror But there’s no mirror there She’s a wild girl Anyway they said Never mind when she’s out of her head She’s a wild girl As her friends hold her down And bottles and glasses come crashing Around The wild girl And everybody laughs As she grabs somebody’s hand And pulls them sliding through the glass She’s a wild girl No-one’s laughing now Someone says – call an ambulance Someone else says – ok ok She’s a wild girl And she died at 2am They asked who her folks were And telephoned them Hey there wild girl I’m not saying what to do But every one of us is Too precious to lose

8. The Little Cross I found a little piece of you Certain things can never be We all leave something small behind Certain things can never be In the dark in the snow You leave footprints as you go But on a leaf on a twig In the bog down in the valley-o I found a little piece of youv Certain things can never be We all leave something small behind And this is where she fell the first time This is where she found her thrill This is where they nailed her to The little cross upon the hill I found a little piece of you Certain things can never be We all leave something small behind Certain things can never be

the deal 04:06

about

We didn't use either a bass or a bass drum in order to make more room for the vocals, which I deliberately pitched 5 notes below my range. But we wanted a kit feel, so we kind of creted a 'deal kit" where the bass drum became a muted tambourine. Joe Chesters Low tunings, combined with the toms being tuned to the tonic created ( great mixing from the very young Joe) a beautiful low end. The critical response was great.

REVIEWS FOR THE DEAL (1998):

Alan Corr, RTE Guide
“It's been a while but it's been worth the wait. Dr Millar's new album The Deal is out and, as you might expect from the master of malcontent, it's a collection of witty asides and cutting song stories. Highly recommended"

Kevin Courtney, The Irish Times "A compassionate heart and a sympathetic soul, Millar's tales of drinking, cursing, loving and cheating are brutally honest vignettes of Irish low life sung in a smoky sardonic rasp."

Joe Jackson, Hot Press "We need writers like Sean Millar to remind us of how bestial and scabrous we can all be, at times, and indeed should be, if only to taste life on every level. The Deal is an album that should be heard."

Tony Clayton Lea, The Sunday Times
"Millar's outlook on life may be bleak but it is offset by shards of humour and some of the best lyrics an Irish singer - songwriter has given us this year. His voice is a perfect companion to the songs' many attributes, superb....A startling record for all the right reasons."
